Grant Burge's Vineyard Range Red Release Just in time to Warm Winter Chills
It’s big, bold Barossa red season and Grant Burge Wines is responding to the winter chill challenge with the release of the new vintages of its four top selling Barossa Vineyard Range reds this month.
The 2008 Hillcot Merlot, 2007 Miamba Shiraz, 2007 Cameron Vale Cabernet Sauvignon and the 2007 Daly Road Shiraz Mourvèdre are all sourced from individually selected vineyards to highlight the Barossa’s unique regional and varietal characters.
Grant describes the four highest selling red wines in the Grant Burge portfolio as “classic, traditional and steadfast”.
“The Vineyard Range has always promised the consumer high quality, regionally distinctive and affordable wines and these new vintages are no exception,” Grant said.
“After 20 years of the Grant Burge label, I’ve developed a deep understanding of what these vineyards are capable of and the quality of wines they are able to produce.
“The whole idea behind my Vineyard Range is to express the individual varietal character from each vineyard site. The differing climatic conditions, soil profiles and seasonal differences make each wine truly unique.”
The 2008 Hillcot Merlot is sourced from the Barossa’s very first Merlot vineyard planted by Grant in 1982. The Hillcot continues to be Australia’s market leading Merlot in both its segment and price point.
“When I produced my first Hillcot, there were only two other Merlots available in Australia. It was a bit of a gamble, but I had a good feeling about it. Now it remains one of our best sellers at home and overseas,” Grant says.
The Vineyard Range 2007 Miamba Shiraz, named after the Miamba block at the Southern end of the Barossa Valley, also has a long viticultural history.
“When we purchased Miamba in 1983 the old vineyard was completely run down – it had even stopped bearing a crop. We’ve spent a lot of time and effort carefully replanting and have returned the block to its former glory,” Grant says.
Grant’s 2007 Cameron Vale Cabernet Sauvignon is an exciting new blend of grapes from some of the oldest Barossa floor vines together with Eden Valley fruit from younger vines.
“The Cameron Vale vineyard, at the Southern end of the Barossa, was planted in the early 1970s and has produced some of my finest Cabernet based wines to date. This year we are excited to blend a small parcel of cool climate Cabernet from our Corryton Park property in Eden Valley,” Grant says.
The newly released 2007 Daly Road Shiraz Mourvèdre is the ‘younger brother’ of two of Australia’s finest Rhone blends produced by Grant Burge: The Abednego and The Holy Trinity.
“We’re really excited about the Daly Road. We’ve used all of the knowledge gained by producing high end Rhone styles and applied it to a wine that has all the same complexity and finesse but is very price competitive,” Grant said.
“The Vineyard Range is the heart and soul of our portfolio – all of the elegance, style and value you’d expect from Grant Burge Wines,” Grant said.
