5 STAR Grant Burge Wines Welcomes Praise

Grant Burge Wines is in the top echelon of wineries receiving five red stars in James Halliday’s 2010 Australian Wine Companion, released last week.

Grant Burge says it is humbling to receive praise in the book widely regarded as the Australian wine drinkers’ bible.

“As Australia’s pre-eminent wine writer and critic, James Halliday’s Wine Companion is eagerly anticipated by wineries each year as it provides a sound benchmark of how we are performing,” says Grant.

In the individual wine tasting notes, Grant’s Shiraz led the charge with his two leading wines scoring 95 points in the outstanding category. This score puts the2004 Meshach Shiraz and 2005 Filsell Shiraz among the nation’s highest rated wines. An outstanding rating from James Halliday is reserved for wines of the highest quality, usually with a distinguished pedigree.

Grant was also extremely pleased with the feature of his 2008 Thorn Riesling, just below the outstanding category with 93 points. This high recommendation is another coup for the 2008 Riesling that has achieved a long list of accolades including best white wine of the 2008 Royal Melbourne Wine show.

“We have always been recognised for our big, bold reds, but it’s nice to be rewarded for all the hard work we also put into developing our white wine styles. The Thorn Riesling is testament to that and I am excited about the new 2009 release, which I think follows 2008 as a perfect example of the Eden Valley style.”

Other highly recommended Grant Burge wines included the 2006 Filsell Shiraz with 93 points; Barossa Vines Shiraz (2006) with 92; The Holy Trinity Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre (2003) 91; and Shadrach Cabernet Sauvignon (2006) with 90.

Grant was also toasting 89 points given to his 2006 Cameron Vale Cabernet Sauvignon, 2008 Moscato and 2007 Summers Chardonnay.
