Barossa Vines Semillon
{THE FRUIT}
Fruit for this wine is from Grant's own vineyards within the Barossa, along with fruit from selected growers
within the region whom Grant has long established relationships with.
2006 was an outstanding vintage for white grapes, with ideal weather conditions to produce excellent quality
fruit, which was picked at 12.5° Baumé.
{THE WINEMAKING}
The fruit was crushed, de-stemmed and drained, then cold settled in
small batches for 48 hours, before fermentation took place.To
maintain the fresh varietal character and flavour of the fruit,
controlled fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks.A small
portion of the fruit was kept on lees for about five weeks and
encouraged to complete malo-lactic fermentation, to enhance the
fruit flavour and balance.
{THE COMMENTS}
Pale straw in colour with complex aromas of citrus,
florals and lemon zest. The elegant finely structured
palate displays similar zingy citrus characters of candied
lemon with a hint of lime, as well as a slight herbaceous
character from the small percentage of Sauvignon Blanc.
The wine has a rounded mouth feel and persistence of
fruit flavours, with a clean, fresh acid finish.
Ready to drink now, while it is young and fresh, this
wine is an ideal partner to spicy Asian food, chicken
and medium-textured fish dishes.

“
The straight Semillon is alert in the mouth due to the acid but it has good creaminess because a large proportion of the wine had lees contact for up to three months.

“
Grant Burge’s Barossa Vines wines are his entry level range but their quality is very good at the price. This young semillon has lots to recommend it: charming lemony, grapey nose that’s light and appetizing, and a crisp, zesty palate of middling intensity and length. Ageing? Drink over two years. Food ideas: Pan-fried flounder, cheese and chive biscuits Rating: **** (A very good wine of real style and personality) $$$ (A wine with a price tag that makes it a steal).

“
The Barossa white isn’t any slouch. It is green-tinted pale straw and has lime zest aromas. Crisp citrus flavour shows on the front of the palate and light creamy, yeasty characters chime in on the middle palate. Lingering fruit and dry steely acid combine at the finish. It would go well with a salad of figs, feta and rocket, fishcakes or seafood crepes. It is one of five well-priced, new-release wines in the Barossa Vines range.

“The Barossa Vines label is Grant Burge’s budget brand. This reasonably priced young Barossa semillon offers good varietal/regional personality. It has a ripe, full nose of lemon and lanolin notes that are classic semillon varietal keys. In the mouth it’s medium bodied with good length and a clean, tangy personality. Good with club sandwiches.”
