Vineyard Range Kraft Sauvignon Blanc
{THE FRUIT}
For many years, the fruit for our Kraft Sauvignon Blanc has been sourced from Dennis and Val Kraft's vineyard at Tanunda which is over 20 years old. This vineyard consistently provides well balanced and defined varietal characteristics. Now together with fruit from the cooler Adelaide Hills climate our ‘Kraft’ offers a little more. The 2008/09 growing season saw average rainfalls throughout the year with a warm October and extreme heat just prior to vintage beginning. The warm temperature and lower levels of subsoil moisture saw the crops with lower yields than average; however these cooler climate vineyards consistently produce wines with exceptional fresh varietal characters. The fruit was harvested in the cool of the night around 13.5° Baumé, to retain more fresh and true Sauvignon Blanc varietal characters and clean, natural acidity.
{THE WINEMAKING}
Once the fruit was crushed and drained through a tank press, the free-run juice was cold-settled for 48 hours, before being racked off gross lees. Separate batches were transferred to stainless steel tanks for fermentation. To ensure freshness and crispness is sustained within this variety, fermentation was carried out at a low temperature and then these separate batches were blended accordingly for maximum varietal flavour and balance.
{THE COMMENTS}
The 2009 Kraft Sauvignon Blanc is pale straw in colour with vibrant green melon, fresh ripe pineapple and subtle passionfruit aromas, which are complimented by delicate florals. The palate is round with crisp fruit flavours; grapefruit, honeydew melons and the varietally characteristic green herbaceous tones. The clean fruit flavours are enhanced by refreshing lemon citrus and crisp acidity leaving a lingering and satisfying finish.
A very popular style of wine, the Kraft Sauvignon Blanc is well suited to summer drinking and is perfect for accompanying fresh spicy Asian salads or seafood dishes.

Lightly grassy, but with a very ripe and brassy aroma of melon and gooseberry-like fruit, this forward, lean ans linear sauvignon blanc does deliver some fleshiness and fattiness of fruit on the palate, which is then tightly drawn together by refreshing, citrusy acids. It's lively, clen and uncomplicated.

“
A big, exotic tropical fruit style of sauvignon blanc. Citrus aromas with very light toasty notes. Some sweetness on the mid-palate that shows weight, nice roundness, good acid and pleasant finish. Rating 4 stars.

Grant Burge Kraft Sauvignon Blanc, 2004, South Australia,
Vibrantly green and strikingly aromatic, this attractive white has classic ripe gooseberry and pungent, slightly smoky notes with generous ripe fruit and elegantly balanced acidity. There is a hint of mineral and a clean, green fruit finish. Not your everyday Sauvignon and worth the money

The Grant Burge Kraft combines a lively, juicy nose of blackcurrants and green fruits with a fresh, intense, blackcurranty flavour, medium depth and a tangy, dry finish. 4 stars.

“
Good grassy, asparagus flavours… full, soft mouth feel, nicely juicy and mild rather than overtly fruity, finishing crisp and dry.

“
Top-notch sauvignon blanc from the Barossa is usually considered an oxymoron but this flies in the face of the theory that the Valley is too warm for this variety. Val and Dennis Kraft planted sauvignon two decades ago and this is clearly the best. Exuberant and vibrant, it rings with bracing acidity and zesty tropical fruit characters.

Tropical fruit salad-like nose. Palate quite fruity and rich with lovely gooseberry flavours. A touch of sweetness but in good balance. A good food wine.
