Reserve Wines RSZ Eden Valley Shiraz
{THE FRUIT}
Most of the fruit for this wine comes from one site in the cooler Eden Valley, on the high eastern edge of the Barossa.
{THE WINEMAKING}
Many of the techniques we use for our premium blend, The Holy Trinity, were applied to this
straight varietal wine including extended maceration and maturation in one and two year old French oak.
{THE COMMENTS}
The wine has a powerful yet elegant bouquet of dark cherries, raspberry and anise, but with savoury overtones of tobacco and earthiness. The palate is more refined and less robust than the traditional American oak style of the Barossa. The wine has great balance and complexity, and a tremendous long finish with a cellaring potential of at least 10 years. Current vintage 1999.

“
Deep purple, intense, tight and powerful fruit, held back from the overwhelming voluptuousness on many SA shirazes by the use of French rather than American oak making for a much more savoury, earthy, refined and better balanced wine. Good drinking.

“
A pure Eden Valley shiraz, this offers luxurious elegance from the sniff to the swallow. The depth and length of flavour and aroma are impressive and it will certainly cellar well, while drinking well now.

“
Good deep purple colour. Quite intense aromas with a distinct savoury edge. Ripe cherry- like fruit flavour and solid oak; the palate has a warm alcohol base and good grape tannin focus. 3 stars.
