    2015 Moscato Rosa Frizzante

    The Fruit:

The Grant Burge Moscato Rosa Frizzante is a delicate style, suited to all styles of wine lovers and many different occasions. This wine is handcrafted from premium vineyards throughout the Barossa and South Australia, using the traditional Moscato variety of White Frontignac.

    The Winemaking:

The fruit was crushed and destemmed with the fermentation process carried out at a cool temperature (9 degrees) for a couple of weeks. At this time the fermentation was stopped to retain natural grape sugars and sweetness. The wine had only 9% alcohol when it was bottled under low temperatures to retain the natural carbon dioxide which appears in the wine as subtle elegant bubbles.

    The Comments:

The 2015 Moscato Rosa is an exceptionally rich and fruity wine showing characters unique to the noble Frontignac grape (Muscat a Petit Grains) grown in rich Barossa soils. Aromas of rosewater, vanilla, lychee and guava are accented by fresh floral topnotes that carry through onto the palate and are accompanied by the fun loving flavours of fairy floss and confectionary musk. The palate is a mix of natural fruit sugar balanced with lower alcohol and crisp acidity to create a pleasingly sweet yet balanced alfresco style.
Best served straight from the fridge its light spritz makes it perfect as a refreshing aperitif or for drinks with friends on a sunny afternoon.

The Moscato Rosa Frizzante, as it's appearance suggests, has sweet berry flavours. Lower in alcohol of about 8 percent and the rippled bottle adds a touch of class.

If you want fresh and fruity without high alcohol, this is a winner. It's just right for a toast as a race picnic, or with gourmet deli foods. We tried this semi-sparkling rose well chilled as an aperitif - very refreshing, with a rose-scented bouquet. Although the moscato grape is sweet, the wine has a good structure and clean finish, and could work with a range of food. Try it with Asian or even the Christmas Turkey - perfect with pavlova, too.

It's no surprise that moscato is a wine style growing rapidly in popularity; it's zingy, easy to drink and offers plenty of sweetness. This is one of the better examples in the marketplace; clean and fresh with plenty of sweetness, but with enough acidity on the finish to prevent it from being cloying. Delicate floral aromas lead on to honeydew and grapey flavours and zesty spritz and the low alcohol levels (just 8 percent) make this a lovely choice for brunch or lunch. Serve well chilled.

Light, fluffy, too floral and lolly-sweet pink for me but many will love it as a well-chilled summer refresher or with fresh berries.

As the name implies the wine, moscato rosa, is a red... well a pink anyway. It is best enjoyed chilled. It has floral and fruit aromas of rose petals, turkish delight, peaches and musk on the nose. Although sweet, it is designed to finish with a crisp, clean zingy taste.

Lots of gas on opening. Full fuchsia pink colour. Restrained muscat fruit, but a clean and pleasant aroma. Sweet and tangy in the mouth with fresh acidity balancing the sweetness. A slight acid hardness, but I'm being hyper-critical. It's very good.

Moscato is not among my favourite drops, but then I don't like wines that are too sweet. It was a bit of a surprise however to try the Grant Burge white and a rose moscato which turned out to be not too oversweet but in fact quite palatable. These are low alcohol wines, the white redolent of melon, the rose having musky and Turkish Delight characteristics. They show the floral burst that comes from a muscatel grape. Both are fresh, clean crisp wines, lightly sparkling, with will be best drunk young and cold.

Very pale strawberry red in appearance, good mousse. Sweet, floral and muscat-like nose with orange blossom, rose petal and a clove/cinnamon spice. Sweet palate with high powdery acid and creamy mousse. Great fruit intensity with floral and muscat-like notes; lingering acid. Great fruit/acid/sugar balance for sweeter style.
