ABEDNEGO
‘This blend is always one that we spend a lot of time fine-tuning. The 2018 vintage is highly regarded in the Barossa; one of those years where you can achieve power and elegance within the one glass'. Craig Stansborough, Chief Winemaker.

GRAPE VARIETY
Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvèdre

COLOUR
Intense, deep and dark crimson red.

NOSE
A complex bouquet with aromas ranging from cracked black pepper to mulberry, cranberry and lemon curd. There are hints of potpourri and orange peel lingering behind the scenes.

PALATE
There is a delightful elegance and complexity to the palate, showing layers of pomegranate, cranberry and raspberry tart upfront, with hints of red fruits. Beautiful firm tannins and graceful, lengthy finish.

VINEYARD REGION
Barossa Valley

VINTAGE CONDITIONS
While the 2018 harvest was very dry, the quality of the fruit was excellent, thanks to the water retention in the soils from rain leading up to vintage. Summer and early autumn were unusually dry. The low disease pressures, coupled with the cool night-time temperatures, allowed the vines to produce fruit with exceptional character and flavour, while being harvested at lower degrees of sugar ripeness, produced vibrant and balanced fruit.

WINEMAKING
All varieties were hand harvested and brought to the winery for individual processing. The parcels were fermented in a combination of open concrete fermenters and stainless steel, between 22-30°C. All parcels undergo 100% malo-lactic fermentation and are matured for 16 months in large oak barrels. Grenache is kept on lees for quite some time, in order to maintain freshness & increase body. 2,500L French oak foudres were also used to maintain fruit brightness. There is a high percentage of Mourvèdre in this blend, which reflects the long and ideal ripening season that allowed the Mourvèdre to reach optimal ripeness, spice, floral notes and structure.
